The Live View and 2 sec. timer
Posted by tekgik under Reviews, Tech, kaBlog
The Live View of this 21mp monster is a joy to use. The simulation exposure and quick mode AF of the 5D Mark II are some of the very practical feats that need to maximized with this cam, I don’t need to stoop-bend-etc just to compose a shot. Moreover the 10x up to 15x focus check feature is a heaven sent for the non-perfect 20 / 20 eyed photographer. Hi-res and 920 dots LCD you say? Canon made this even better with their new anti-reflective technology and an inteliigent atuo brightness feature. I noticed these nifty features when I reviewed the EOS 50D last spetember, I can say now that their Live View functions are very identical.
The Live View will have its use for the style of photography (ehem videography) I do, In fact I already did with that “Mimosa overnight sensation” trip.. Video coming soon (im still reading the Final Cut Express tutorial)!
What about the 2 seconds timer? I purposely left my shutter release. But I know that it is a primary consideration that you should not use the cameras shutter button on a tripod if you are below the minimum acceptable speed, but it came out pretty handy, 1-1000.. 2-1000 then you I have my shot..
These are the nice things that Canon should have done 3 years ago

Lightroom 2.x runs on 64-bit mode
Posted by tekgik under News, Post Processing, Tips & Tricks, kaBlog
In case you don’t know (cause I dont), Adobe Lightroom 2.0 runs on 64 bit mode natively in OS X. I was fiddling with my apps folder and was curious about what i saw (see left photo) . So i checked out Adobe.com and confirmed it is running on 64-bit mode
See Adobe’s feature highlights below
Top new features
- Local adjustment brush
- Enhanced organizational tools
- Volume management
- Extensible architecture
- Revolutionary DSLR profiling
- Multiple monitor support
- Flexible print package functionality
- Streamlined Photoshop CS3 integration
- Enhanced output sharpening
- 64-bit support for Windows® and Mac OS
And so if your LR is not permforming optimally try ticking that check box “open in 32 bit mode” (see photo above) this might solve your speed issues.

Take a grip…
Posted by tekgik under Reviews, kaBlog
I took a grip. The EOS 5D Mark II BG-E6 battery grip. From my very first DSLR the 300D to my previous 5D Mark I, I just cannot have but buy a battery grip, it stabilizes the handling of the camera with heavy lenses. I admit that the 5D’s gripless body is already heavy but again it counterweights the 70-200 2.8’s lenses most specially the IS version.
Some observations…
The BG E6 is a little bit different from the 5D Mark I’s battery grip BG E4. Canon added the AF-ON button which is pretty handy for locking focus vertically. It came with the 2AA battery cartridge that comes out very helpful at times when you ran out of power. This battery grip has two separated terminals that reports LP E6 info’s to the camera. More over if you check out the battery info on the LCD it reports those two battery informations, very cool IMHO. Its built like a tank, it is still made out of part magnesium alloy and hard plastic. It doesnt feel squeeky or plasticky. A must have accessory. Its quite expensive I know, but I can’t live without it. Thats the beauty of the 5D form factor grip or without a grip you have an option.

Bye 2008! Welcome 2009!
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog
That was fast! 2008 is almost over it was a great year for me, it opened a lot of new opportunities the workshops and etc. I must say that it is the most notable year for my photography career to date. Every year is different but 2008 was better in terms of income. I had acquired a number of additional gears and equipment this year and I don’t see it stopping next year this job is very demanding i need to competitive and to be one in-line at the top. Im still very happy with this job “best job in the world” when your passion is your work, you wont notice that you are working, it is both work & hobby at the same time. I still want to diversify and master other genres, thats the exciting thing about it, you never stop learning and honing your skills.
While 2008 was healthy I can see that 2009 could be a little bit difficult for all of us because of this global economic crisis. Im ready, we are ready, Filipinos are ready for it, we are always in a econimic crisis anyway so nothing will be different. But I agree companies will cut back and will make every possible cost cutting to reduce expenses. Commercial photography will be one to be greatly hit im sure, in fact I had a client who backed-out for a shoot because of these reasons.
Personal life has been great also, our family is lovingly strong as ever. Im proud to say that im a very focused dad and husband I see to it that i give quality time to my family. This year my son started going to pre-school, its really exciting proud dad as always!
I would like to thank everyone; clients, friends and family who believed in me. Happy new year!

Happy Holidays!
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog
Happy Holidays everyone. As our yearly tradition, we attend mass every Christmas eve or the first hour of the birth of Jesus Christ.
And as a Filipino tradition also, many would come to our house our godchildren (inaanak in tagalog) for the Aguinaldo (Christmas present / gift). This is the time of the year where surprisingly almost all people share some blessings to his / her love ones and brethren.
Me and my wife have a very HUGE gift to our son Raffy I hope he likes it.
Again Merry Christmas to you all!
